Seventh Generation Asks Bloggers to Lay It on the... →
We use and like Seventh Generation laundry detergent. And, we almost always wash in cold water. Our clothes are rarely dirty enough to need warm or hot water on top of detergent. Also, cold water uses less energy. I would encourage everyone to wash with cold water when practical.
That said, having to worry about the bad weather, theft, eyesores, and stiff clothes that can come with line drying...

iMac and Magic Trackpad Thoughts
Having spent a little over a day with the 27-inch iMac and the Magic Trackpad, my thoughts at this point:
How did I ever live without a large monitor? Being able to see two web pages and/or apps at once is a huge productivity booster. I’m glad I embiggened.
The iMac feels so much peppier than my metal 13-inch MacBook. Not sure if it’s the processor or the faster hard drive. Probably...
New Mac Purchase
I have a strange mental process when it comes to buying new Macs. After agonizing for days or weeks over what I should buy and what I can afford, I finally buy the new Mac. I’m then simultaneously thrilled by how cool the new Mac is and angst-ridden about how much money I’ve just spent.
The truly bizarre part is that I’ve almost always been pleased in the long term with the Mac...

A Kindle 2 Upgrade Soon?
Amazon is showing the Kindle 2 as backordered but is still taking new orders at the $189 price point. The Kindle 2 is far from new and we aren’t anywhere near the holiday season. So, it’s odd that the Kindle 2 would be backordered now.
I’m guessing the Kindle 2 will shortly get a smaller version of the improved screen recently added to the Kindle DX. The screen has 50 percent...

There’s nothing quite like sitting down at your computer to start the work week and immediately having a kernel panic. #Monday
Inception raises many profound questions. What is a dream? What is reality? Can we tell the difference? But, tomorrow we are going to the theater to ponder a question of even greater depth, complexity, and importance: Who is Salt?
Salt” is a damn fine thriller. It does all the things I can’t stand...
– Roger Ebert’s 4-Star review of Salt
Hope to see it this weekend!

Cat Drama Planned for Tomorrow
Simon’s fur is so matted that some of it must be buzzed off with clippers. And, he’s too tightly wound for me to take him to a vet’s office to do it. So, I’ve found a very cool house-call vet named Karen who came by today. She has given me a pill to crush and feed to Simon tomorrow afternoon. It will hopefully make him groggy enough for me to wrap him in a towel and hold...

'Damages' lives ... if you have DirecTV - From... →
I’m thrilled at this news even thought we have no plans to get DirecTV. I’ll just keep my fingers crossed for later distribution via iTunes or other channels.
I’m baffled at Damages’ ratings decline in seasons 2 and 3. It remains amazing show and Glenn Close is simply hypnotic to watch.
Amazon.com Now Selling More Kindle Books Than... →
Amazon.com users and people who love reading enough to spring for hardcovers were probably always more likely to embrace ebooks than the average reader. But, this is still impressive. It won’t be long until Kindle ebooks eclipse paperback sales on Amazon.com too.
It’s also interesting to hear that Kindle 2 sales have increased three times since the price dropped from $259 to $189....
Random Thoughts
I loved my Philips Direct Life for tracking my activity level, but lost it last year and have been too lazy to replace it. My activity level has gone way down in the interim. I’ve just ordered a Fitbit that will ship by August 10th. I’ve realized that metrics can help you focus on change and I hope the Fitbit gets me more active again. I may share my progress here, but probably...
I’m loving Osmos on the iPad and just found out that Mac, Windows, and Linux versions have existed for awhile. What a stunningly beautiful and challenging game. I highly recommend giving it a try if you haven’t played before. The website describes Osmos this way:
Enter the ambient world of Osmos: elegant, physics-based gameplay, dreamlike visuals, and a minimalist, electronic...

The full theatrical trailer for David Fincher’s Facebook movie ‘The Social Network’
Sony Pictures has finally released the full trailer for David Fincher’s upcoming Facebook film ‘The Social Network’ on Yahoomovies. No more audio only teaser trailers. This is easily one of the best trailers I’ve seen all year, and ‘The Social Network’ looks like it could be one of David Fincher’s...
